Hmmph. I though slander meant when what people were saying about you was untrue.

It also has to *hurt* your reputation. For example, I can say that “George Bush is the stupidest human to ever occupy the Oval Office” without slandering. Not only could it be true on a factual basis, but my characterizing him as “human” might actually be perceived as *enhancing* his reputation, not diminishing it.
