Reader kandikandi sent me an email this morning with an Idaho Absentee Ballot attached. I opened the attached PDF as I sipped my morning coffee….and almost sprayed my screen when I saw the following candidate listed running for U.S. Senate:
“Pro-Life (IND) (A person formerly known as Marvin Richardson)”.
“This has to be a hoax”, I thought — but Google proved me wrong:
How the hell did I miss this one?
Apparently there is a fine American tradition of changing your name to some wacko slogan and then running for office. Read the incredible story of Byron (Low Tax) Looper — a man so committed to his agenda that, in addition to changing his name, he murdered his opponent. And let’s not forget the late David Powers who changed his name to “Absolutely Nobody” and received 7% of the vote for Lieutenant Governor in Washington state.
After reading about these guys, I had my usual “Why is American Politics like fishing at a pond stocked with retarded trout?” feeling.
“Only in America”, I thought.
And again, Google proves me wrong:
Now for Brazil’s Barack Obamas – all six of them
Nuttiness respects no borders, it seems.
