You know the old line about how all country music is the same? She leaves him, he cheats on her, his dog dies and his truck won’t start. Well, that’s nowhere near being true. And even if it was, it points to country’s biggest strength: straightforward stories about everyday people. I’m talking, of course, about real country, which stopped being produced around the mid 1980s (if not earlier). Country now is watered-down rock in a cowboy hat or flowing dress. It’s also the place where faded rock performers go to whore.

Take for instance the show Gone Country — in its third season! Cast includes George Clinton, Taylor Dayne, Mickey Dolenz, Sheila E., Justin Guarini and Richard Greico. Do I really need to write any more?

The “winner” gets to record a song with some f*ck with a cowboy hat on. One song! Wow, what a prize!

The winner of season 3 was Sheila E. She’s a great performer and drummer, but nothing could make this right.
